CPD 225 - Current Trends in Professional Regulation

Keynote speaker Bryan Salte, Q.C. is currently the Associate Registrar and Legal Counsel for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan, a position he has held since 1999. His primary responsibilities include general counsel work for the College of Physicians and Surgeons, preparing and presenting discipline cases to the discipline committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons and representing the College of Physicians and Surgeons in court matters. In addition to acting as legal counsel to the College, Bryan has a significant role in policy development and works with College committees and on College projects. Bryan was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 2009 and received the distinguished service award from the Canadian Bar Association in 2016. He has authored a number of publications including Licensing and Regulation of the Health Professions, a chapter in the book Canadian Health Law Practice Manual and a book, The Law of Professional Regulation, which was published in 2015.

The remainder of the seminar will feature various experienced lawyers, beginning with a panel discussion on the perspective of the decision maker followed by insight into acting as counsel to a discipline committee. The program will continue with a look at discipline proceedings, with presentations from both prosecuter and counsel representing members. To end the day, participants will be given an update on the Law Society’s discipline process.
